Great ad copy doesn’t start with writing, it starts with understanding.
But let’s face it: staring at a blank doc is intimidating.
Especially if you’re running your own Meta Ads with limited time, budget, or team.
That’s why this issue is all about helping you write scroll-stopping, conversion-boosting Facebook ad copy using a repeatable 5-step process—and AI, of course.
Let’s break it down 👇
Step-by-Step Framework for Writing High-Converting Meta Ads Copy
The following 5 step framework and AI will help you exceptional ad copy for your Facebook Ads, but also any other advertising.
1. Research and Understand Your Audience
Objective: Identify your target demographic’s needs, pain points, motivations, and language.
Tools:
👉 Dive into client data
👉 Past campaign analytics
👉 Market insights.
Then build buyer personas and product briefs with the use AI to speed things.
Use the prompts in DAS #71. I talk about how to create buyer personas and products briefs in the beginning of article.
2. Start with a Strong Hook (Headline)
Your ad only works if it stops the scroll.
Objective: Stop thumbs in their tracks within the first 3 seconds.
Characteristics of a great hook:
👉 Short and bold
👉 Poses a question, makes a bold claim, brings up a problem or sparks curiosity
👉 Feels personal and targeted
Pro tip: For hook frameworks and inspiration, check my curated Hook Library—160+ tested formats.
3. Write the Story
Once the hook grabs attention, tell a story that emotionally connects and builds desire.
Tips:
👉 Speak directly using "I", “you” and “we”
👉 Focus on benefits before features
👉 Use short, easy-to-read sentences
👉 Add bullet points for clarity
👉 Tie it back to a relatable use case or outcome
Pro Tip: Make sure your ads are personal. More on this in DAS #73 - The Art of Personal Ads: Timeless Copywriting That Still Converts.
Objective: Establish credibility and rapport.
The easiest way to do this is to add social proof.
Use:
👉 Review quotes
👉 Star ratings
👉 “As seen on” badges
👉 Trust indicators (e.g., Secure Payments, Free Shipping, Money Back Guarantee)
Pro Tip: Add this in line or as a visual element. Testimonials make your ads feel like a recommendation, not a pitch.
5. End with a Clear Call-to-Action (CTA)
Objective: Drive your reader to the next step.
Must-haves:
👉 Clear and specific
👉 Aligned with the desired action — no vague "click here"
👉 Add urgency or value where relevant
See DAS #58 - Stop Using Boring CTAs in Your Ads where I broke down ad structure, including CTA best practices.
Bonus Tip: Use This AI Prompt to Generate Full Ad Copy
You’ve got the structure. Now let AI help with the first draft.
Prompt:
“Act like a Facebook ad copywriter. Based on this product: [insert brief], and this persona: [insert audience profile], write Facebook ad copy using the following structure: – Hook (max 15 words) – Story (focus on benefits, keep tone conversational) – Social Proof (real or realistic testimonial) – Trust Elements (like shipping guarantees or product quality) – CTA (short, actionable, urgent if possible). Output copy ready for Meta Ads.”
🍯 Example: Local Honey Beekeeper Ad
Hook: Tired of fake “honey” that’s more syrup than sweet?
Story: Meet your new favorite jar—raw wildflower honey from our backyard hives. No additives, no fluff. Just nature, bottled.
Social Proof: “You can taste the difference. I’ll never buy supermarket honey again!” – Maria, Lisbon
Trust Elements (you can add these as text or include into the visual creative)
âś… 100% Raw & Unfiltered
âś… Eco-friendly packaging
âś… Harvested locally each week
CTA: Order your jar today—limited batch, ships tomorrow.
Snackable Challenge
This week, write one ad using this 5-step method.
âś… Create a product brief and persona
âś… Use AI to generate your ad copy with the structure
âś… Save it to your creative library
