TLDR (for skimmers 🙂)

  • Static Meta ads are not dead — they’re just poorly executed.

  • Most brands either run lazy catalog-style creatives or overload them with everything.

  • Great static ads use a few core elements, but not all of them.

  • I built a 26-point scorecard to help you rank your image ad before spending money.

  • Around 13+ points = ready to test.

  • The goal isn’t perfection. It’s clarity.

Download the scorecard (at the end). Score your next static. Stop launching obvious losers.

Let’s clear this up.

Static Meta ads aren’t dead.

They’re not “less effective.” They’re not replaced by UGC or video.

They’re just often badly executed.

And when something is badly executed, it looks like the format is the problem.

It’s not.

Most brands fall into one of these traps

1. The lazy catalog ad

  • White background.

  • Product cutout.

  • Maybe a logo.

  • Uploaded straight from the website into Ads Manager.

Lazy Static Ad

2. The overloaded creative

  • Product image.

  • Promo badge.

  • Old price.

  • New price.

  • Discount.

  • Description.

  • USP.

  • Guarantee.

  • Five benefits.

  • Three colors.

  • Ten fonts.

Static Ad overloaded with text

It becomes a banner, not an ad.

Then they start blaming Andromeda Update, Meta Outages, and Zuckerberg.

Scroll Test — 5 pts

*Total Possible Score: 26 Points

  • 0–12 → Don’t launch

  • 13–16 → Ready to launch (can be improved)

  • 17–21 → Strong winner candidate

  • 22+ → Exceptional creative (if other variables align)

*In the full scorecard, you’ll get detailed scoring questions for each element. Just having a headline doesn’t automatically mean 4 points.

The Goal Is NOT 26/26

Trying to max out every category is how you ruin a static ad.

Not every ad needs every element.

In fact, forcing everything in defeats the purpose of a static image.

The goal is:

  • Choose the right elements

  • Keep it clean

  • Make sure your ad communicates a clear message

If you hit around half of the total points (13 pts), you’re in a solid position to test.

But remember, there are other variables that need to align for conversion:

  • Product-market fit

  • Offer strength

  • Timing

  • CRO

  • Competitor activity

  • Customer journey

Creative is the starting line. Not the finish line.

Static ads are still killing it.

What’s not:

  • Generic product shots

  • Cluttered banner-style creatives

  • Lazy CTAs

If you treat static ads like a system instead of an afterthought, they’ll reward you.
